The Mighty Men of Old |

THEY
ARE CALLED angels and the sons of God, but one must bear in
mind what these expressions actually stood for in biblical times. Angels
simply denotes messengers, or ambassadors, and the word is mostly
used connected and defined; for example: the Lord's messengers, Michael
and his messengers, the Dragon and his messengers, and so on.
In post biblical (catholic) times, both the Lord's angels and the devil's
angels were mythologized and given fabulous features, even among God's people.
But the angels who are mentioned in the Bible are no pink-faced babies with
goose-wings, or behorned monsters with goat's feet.
The angels in the Bible are divided into a multitude
of classes and species. They are noble beings, worthy of all respect, whatever
side they are on. There seems to be a greater diversity among them than
among humans, regarding their size, shape and qualities. Perhaps the angelic
world is as varied as the earth, with its abundance of living beings of
different species.
The writers and prophets of the Bible were not as familiar with the shape
of the space, with its stellar-systems and planets, as we are in our times.
They described what they saw and heard from above with the vocabulary of
their culture. The heavens were a common name for everything above
the earth. Angels, the messengers of God, depicted all beings
of extra-terrestrial origin. Gods, principalities, or sons of
God could also be their epithets, both those who belonged to the Lord
and those who battled against him.
These extra-terrestrial beings were behind most
of what happened on Earth, so much did they know. They were fully aware
of a war in the heavenlies, which were fought between the hosts of the Lord
and his enemy's hosts, and which had repercussions on the Earth.
But the appearance of the "heavens", and what kind of beings its
inhabitants were, that they didn't know. And even if some were allowed to
look into heaven, or even visit it, their descriptions still were limited
by the language and conceptions of that time.
We don't know so much more than them, other than
perhaps something about the physical countenance of space. We know that
there are billions of suns out there, many surely with planets in their
orbits resembling our planet .
We also have the technical knowledge to travel a short distance through
space, visit the moon and perhaps the closest planets. Our conception therefore
is a little bit more detailed and defined than that of the ancients. So
if we have extra-terrestrial visits, we call them UFO:s and close encounters
of different degrees. If an angel of God should show himself in the sky
today, it is very possible he would be described as an "UFO observation".
And if the sons of God should visit Earth as they did in ancient times,
they would probably be called "humanoid-like beings".
This said as a background to the present article's
theme - the parallels between the days of Noah, the days of Lot, and the
day of the Son of Man.

THAT WHICH
HAPPENED BEFORE THE FLOOD thus was repeated after the Flood. Moses is saying
it, Jesus is saying it, and the apostles are saying it - as we have seen
in the quoted Bible-verses. Then we'll have to believe them, won't we?
After the days of Noah followed the days of Lot, which here will include
the whole epoch after the Flood, until New Testament times. We are aware
of the events in Sodom and Gomorrha, which may have been one of the reasons
that the sons of God came for new visits to the planet Earth.
These visits may have occurred when the children
of Israel were living in Egypt, during the 400 years the nations of Canaan
were given to "fill up the messure of their iniquity". Then the
birds that came down on Abraham's offering, in connection with the prophecy
about the 400 years, could have symbolized the descending of the fallen
angels in the land (Gen. 1:15).
Which is in line with Jesus' description of the events in the end times,
when he's talking about the backslidden church: "For wheresoever
the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together" (Matt.
24:28).
When Moses and his people, after the 400 years,
finally were ready for the conquest of the promised land, they met with
a strange element which hadn't been there before, and which now seemed to
be an invincible hindrance for the invasion: There were giants living
in the land...
MOSES
SPEAKS TO THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, SOME 800 YEARS AFTER THE GREAT FLOOD:
Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fenced up to heaven,
A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak!
Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee.
Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee. (Deut. 9:1-4)
The ungodliness in Canaan after the Flood
consisted of all kinds of perverse and unnatural mingling, typical for the
fallen angels. There were many different nations living in Canaan at the
time, but the children of Anak are especially mentioned here, just
ahead of the very conquest of the land, as well as their ungodliness, and
that indicates that these giants probably were the cause and origin of the
ungodliness and the judgment over the land, just as over the world in Noah's
days.
Now Moses sent out spyes before the coming invasion:
And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) (Num. 13:22) Was Zoan also a city of giants...?
The spyes return, sadly reporting:
Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there."
"And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. (Num. 13:28, 33)
The land of Canaan obviously has had visits
by "the sons of God" some time after the days of the Flood, because
now it was inhabited by giants, giants who were widely renown, as were their
predecessors. God had been forced to exterminate the predeluvian world,
because it had been made unclean by angel hybrids, and now also the nations
of Canaan, with their hybrid races, were doomed to destruction.
The observation by the spyes of Moses occurred about 1500 years before Christ. The migration of nations from Babel and the population of Canaan hade taken place at least 500 years earlier. The visitors therefore, whether they arrived before or after the fall of Sodom, had plenty of time to contaminate and pollute the land and the nations who lived there. (Correction: Gen. 14:5 confirms that there were giants in Canaan even before the time of Abraham. But it is possible that the angelic visitations continued long after that.)
Besides the Anakims, the Emims are mentioned as being tall far above the usual - as were the Zamzummims:
The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims. (Deut. 2:10-11)That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims; A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead: (Deut. 2:20-21)
They were all Rephaims (see Hebraic
Deut. 2:20), which indicates that it was among the Rephaims in the northeast
of Canaan the angels landed. Their common giant offspring then were spread
along the whole east side of Jordan River and the Dead Sea, and around Hebron
in the southwest.
The Canaanites themselves, mostly in the west and northwestern part of the
land, had chariots of iron and could not be defeated (Judges 1:19), which
implies a highly technological development among these peoples, who were
all more or less tall and had hugh and mighty cities with impressing temples,
in class with the later greek temples. They were far from primitive savages,
as they are commonly represented. (It was rather the israelites, at that
time, who were a "primitive" people.)
Another interesting detail is that it is particularly
to the land of Canaan these angels seems to have come - Canaan, who was
cursed by his grandfather Noah, just because of unnatural bendings. It is
also typical that it was to this area, which God had chosen for his people,
that Canaan migrated (was lead) to, and were a predeluvian culture in miniature
arose.
One can see that the struggle in heavenly places, between God and the rebellious
angels, is still raging, even after the Flood.
THE GIANTS clearly were carriers of hereditory dispositions far beyond normal:
For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold,
his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children
of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth
of it, after the cubit of a man. (Deut. 3:11)
One cubit was about one and a half feet.
The sarcophagus*
of King Og thus was thirteen and a half feet long, and six feet wide. What
a terrible GIANT he must have been. Perhaps four meters in length, and more
than a meter over his shoulders! His burial place became widely renown.
* His bedstead (or rather sarcophagus) was of iron (or ironstone), 9 cubits in length and 4 cubits in breadth. - Easton's Bible Dictionary.
As a result of the spyes doubting and bringing up an evil report on the land, the invasion became a failure, and the children of Israel had to return to the great and terrible Sinai wilderness. Not until 40 years later a new generation were ready to take posession of the land and God's promises:
AND AT THAT TIME CAME JOSHUA, and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel: Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities. There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained. (Joshua 11:21-22)
How could Joshua defeat all these gigantic
nations with their great cities, fenced up to heaven? The answer is that
the host of the Lord, with their captain, were there with them and fought
for them.
When Joshua met this "captain" outside of Jericho, he at first
thought it was a man (Joshua 5:13-15). There were nothing in his appearance
that resembled the angels who elsewhere could show themselves, as for example
when Daniel had a visit from the archangel Gabriel. But of course, this
angel, who probably was Israel's prince Michael, could have appeared before
Joshua in a human "disguise". Anyway there occurred great and
strange cosmic phenomenon after the arrival of the heavenly host; hailstones
fell from heaven and destroyed whole enemy armies, and the sun and the moon
stood still for a whole day (Jos. 10:11-14). There was a great effort in
the skies at this time.
Gaza, Gath and Ashdod, that were mentioned above,
were Philistine cities. Philistine, the coast strip along the Mediterranian
Sea, now became the refuge of the fleeing giants, where they mixed with
the Philistines and joined their army. Both Anakims and Raphaims fled to
the Philistines.
Earlier, Hebron in Israel had been a special quarter for the giants, before
it was liberated:
And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses said: and he expelled thence the three sons of Anak. (Judges 1:20)
Caleb spoke unto Joshua:
Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
And the name of Hebron before was Kirjath-arba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.
And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron. And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak. (Joshua 14:12, 15; 15:13-14)
When the giants were exterminated, or expelled,
the land had rest from war, we read. Yet another indication that it was
from the circle of the giants, that the evil went forth.
The refuge of the giants, Philistine on the Mediterranean
coastline, now became the archenemy of the israelites, and many wars were
fought between the two neighbouring nations.
David exterminates the last giants
FIVE HUNDRED YEARS PASS, and in the days of David, about 1000 years before Christ, offspring of the giants are still living among the Philistines:

Goliath the Giant was 3.12 meters (over
nine feet) tall! The weight of his armour was between 55-80 kg, and just
the head of his enormous spear weighed between 6.6 and 9.6 kg.
Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint. And Ishbi-benob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.
And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.
And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant. And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.
These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants. (2 Sam. 15-22)
According to the Hebraic text, these giants were of the Rephaim race.
The Anakim and the Rephaim probably were of the same origin, but of different families. They were real giants, blasfemous and scornful, and seems to, besides of an enormous body, also have been carriers of alien genes (one of them had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot).
The Philistines in David's time, 500 years after Joshuas conquests, were a nation with pockets of angel-hybrids. If these weren't the last giants, the may never have been fully exterminated. Were they perhaps assimilated with the Philistines and other people? Then we could have genes from "aliens" still circulating today, though mixed.
WHO WERE the Rephaims actually? Were
they children of angels, or was it they who were the angels? Og, their last
king, was buried in a stone coffin that measured 13,5 x 6 feet. If the offspring
of the angels and earth women became giants, they themselves might have
been gigantic. Revelation 10:1 speaks of a huge angel of God, so we know
there are angels of gigantic stature.
If they acted as in the days of Noah, that is, if they didn't just "fertilize"
the earth women and then went home, but actually "took them wives"
- then they must have settled here and brought up their giant-babies together
with these women.
Og, the last king of the Rephaim, therefore might have been an extra-terrestrial,
a physical being from another solar system. Perhaps his remains are still
in the grave today.

The End Time
SO, WHEN JESUS
is speaking of the day of his coming, he mentiones these earlier periods,
to describe how the end-time will be: As it were in the days of Noa and
Lot, so shall it be in the day of the Son of Man: unnatural mingling, angelic
visitations, the appearance of giants, war between the hosts of heaven...
We do have perverse mingling today, in abundance, as well as angelic visitations
- that is, UFO observations, and, if one is to believe the witnesses, even
contacts with extra-terrestrials.
But the giants, the hybrids, are still missing.
Why? There can be two reasons: 1) The angels don't dare, because of what
happened to the ancient visitors, who were thrown down to the deepest abyss
before the time of judgment. 2) They are in a preparing stage of a new cross-breeding,
a new race, which then will be implanted on Earth.
There are contemporary testimonies about humans having been taken aboard
UFO ships and examined, and some even say they have been fertilized by extra-terrestrial
humanoids, who later on came back and took the offspring with them, leaving
Earth.
Fantasies or not, but if the end time shall be as in the days of Noah and Lot, this would fit well into that description.
One can also remember the proceeding of events
in the ancient times. At first, humanity opens up for the spiritual overnatural
and the physical unnatural, so that the ground, so to speak, is prepared
for the evil angels. Then follows the very impact, by these "birds
of prey".
And doesn't Revelation 9 say that satan and his angels shall be thrown down
on Earth in the end of time? And so the abyss, the bottomless pit, will
be opened, and king Abaddon and his hosts will arouse like a smoke on the
Earth. It was in the abyss the ancient Flood angels were imprisoned. This
will truly be a satanic "reunion"!
SO WE
SEE that also the UFO-phenomenon is a sign of the times, a great ominous
sign, crying out that we are living in the end times, close to the destruction
of this present civilization.
But therebye we are also close to the coming of Jesus, and the catching
up in the clouds of his assembly, away from wrath and world catastrophes.
When did the world-wide "homosexual"
movement appear? What was behind it? And as that landmark was removed, didn't
the next perversity show up; incest and child abuse?
Parallel to this the occult streams are running forth, with satanic worship,
new age, catholicism and apostate christianity, preparing on all stages
the great combat between the hosts of light and the hosts of darkness, in
which our earth and our generation is the battlefield.
It seems that the last century, and especially
the time from the second world war and onward, has been a tremendous preparation
time, where the darkness mobilized all its hosts, including those on the
earth, under the earth, and above the earth, into an enormous power-duel
and conclusion that soon will come.
Everywhere, humanity and culture is undermined before the final battle,
the climax of this age. But as the apostle Paul has said: No power, be that
in the high or in the deep, can separate us that are in Christ, from Christ.
Satan, the prince of the power of the air, soon
has had his time, and will be moved yet another step downward, into the
same abyss that the Flood angels will be allowed to break out of for a while,
before they, together with their old rebellion leader, is brought back and
imprisoned with millennial chains until the great day of judgment. "Art
thou become like unto us" (Isaiah 14:10), they will say to Lucifer,
the Morning star, who once initiated the rebellion against the Creator and
took with him a third of the heavenly host.
Now he will be brought down into his grave, completely degraded and deprived
his power and (fainting) glory, to be in a custody of punishment with his
ancient companions, awaiting the final imprisonment in the lake of brimstone.
Into that place also all the people, who let themselves be lead by him in the rebellion and the resistance against God, will follow him, as well as the backslidden, religious, lukewarm, lost and wordly minded christians, who were unfaithful unto the Saviour and the light they had been given, and therefore qualified as equals of fallen angels.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Acts 8:38-39)
